Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue - the meaning of wedding traditions

The classic “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and a Lucky Sixpence in your Shoe.” Where do they come from and what do they mean!

The Something Old- It could be a piece of her grandmother’s jewelry, or even the your mother's wedding dress. This is a link of continuity from the bride's past. Some say this is a desire to remain connected with your family even after you established a family of your own. Other sources say it represents the life you are leaving behind. Another idea is that the tradition of family values and the connection family brings is being passed down to you.

The Something New - For many brides the wedding gown is the “new” item.  This usually means optimism and hope for the future

The Borrowed Item - a reminder that the bride will always have the support of friends and family. Sources have said it is symbolizes the love and adoration you have for the person from whom you have borrowed the item from.

The Something Blue - connected to weddings for centuries as a symbol of love, modesty, fidelity, good luck, purity and loyalty.

Sixpence in your shoe - It represents financial security for the couple. For optimum fortune, the sixpence should be worn in the left shoe!

Here's an idea for a global wedding favor ~ customized spice kits by Etsy seller PurposeDesign. You can have your name customized on the label and then choose from different world spice kits like Mexican, Thai, Italian, Southeast Asian.

With the new trend of eco friendly products
why not give your guests personalized tote bags.
They will be very useful as most stores now do not
provide bags when you purchase their products!

Have a special recipe for cookies or muffins, why not share it with your guests!

Very unique idea, why not have a photo booth at your recieving line!
Have your guests take one strip of pictures for themselves as favors and have them place another strip in a guest book, let them write some thoughfull words and it is a great memory keeper of your wedding day. courtesy of http://www.snapzphotobooth.ca/

NEW COLOR TRENDS FOR 2011

Here are some ideas about beautiful colour schemes that are predicted for 2011. Every couple that comes in for a consultation looks at somehow incorporating their color scheme into their invitations and accessories.  We have a ton of paper colors, ribbons and even print colors that we can use to coordinate everything together.

Bright colours will be big for the summer, colors like hot pink, orange and apple green.

The vintage-style colours are still in and will continue into next year, colors like khaki greens, creams and burnt red. Greys were used in 2010 and they will more than likely keep emerging into 2011.  Colors like corals and peaches will be a big color aswell, and for all you brides who love black but dont dare to use it, why not try Navy! It is such a vintage and elegant color and will be big for 2011.
There is an amazing site where you can play around with inspiration boards and create your own color grouping.  http://www.dessy.com/

Below are some that i pulled from their site!

Vintage and classic is still the trend going into 2011.

Navy Blue for those who dare not to use black!

Last Minute Wedding Design

I can't believe how popular the fall months are becoming. This year we have never experienced so many weddings for month of September. October and November are becoming more popular as well for couples!
This bride was a last minute addition to our orders for 2010. She had wanted something whimsical!

WORKING ON BABY SHOWER

Working on a baby shower invite for a friend, I am so happy for the mom to be, she will soon be a new mama!

This invite is being mounted to a light green pouchette with a pale yellow backer and matching envelopes and we are going to put crystals in the wheels...how cute!

Vendor Spotlight - Rachel Clingen

Rachel Clingen Designs had created my wedding decor and flowers when I got married 8 years ago. I was so happy that I chose her because she was absolutely amazing! I had done a lot of research and she just stood out from the rest, she was fresh and always created new and exciting ideas.

Working with our brides we always recommended Rachel as we know they will amazed with her work so when it came time for Melanie's wedding, it was honestly a no brainer!

We are so excited to see what Rachel will create as we are sure it will be absolutely stunning. She is so passionate and takes so much pride in her designs and it definitely shows in her work. If you are looking for someone that has fresh ideas and creates something that is uniquely different, than trust me you will be happy to work with Rachel and her team.

Vendor Spotlight - Tara Fava Jewellery

Thought it would be a good idea to showcase some of the amazing vendors that Melanie (my sister and partner in crime for paperdamsels) is using for her wedding in September.

With her wedding FAST approaching, we decided to get cracking on her jewellery. When we were at the winter bridal show in January we noticed a fellow vendor that caught our eyes. We could not believe the amount of brides at this booth that we had no choice but to check her out......well to our suprise she had the most beautiful jewellery on display!

We decided to go and pay her a visit a few weeks ago at her studio, Tara totally goes out of her way to make your experience enjoyable and helps you find the perfect pieces. She honeslty does amazing work and it's not just bridal, she also has pieces that you could wear for any occasion from a gala event down to street chic.

Being so impressed with her work, Melanie and i decided to purchase our jewellery from her and we can't wait to see them!
If you are looking for something beautiful and different then you really need to check her out!
